This program will discuss three primary types of legal writing in the litigation setting, distinguishing between
informative, persuasive and adversarial styles and when to use each. Focus will be on making your writing
readable and correct.
You will learn the components of case briefs, inter-office memos, trial memos and discovery; framing the
components of internal memos and trial briefs including questions presented, headings and statement of facts.
You will receive tips on organizing your writing; drafting discovery and discovery motions; using the right style for
letters and emails; and, review grammar, syntax, punctuation, legal jargon and structure.

Beth King, RP, is a senior litigation paralegal at Vestas-American Wind Technology,
in Portland, Oregon, a subsidiary of the Vestas Group, a global leader in wind technology.
With over 23 years of experience, Ms. King manages potential litigation, assists in risk management and other legal department activities. She is an active member of the
Oregon Paralegal Association, a seasoned instructor and popular seminar leader.
