OLP Launches First Ever Online, Interactive eDiscovery Course for Professionals

LOS ANGELES MAY 20, 2010:  The Organization of Legal Professionals, a group of eDiscovery and litigation support providers, litigators, administrators and judges that includes some of the most respected thought leaders in the field, announced today its strategic alliance with the Center for Advanced Legal Studies to launch eDiscovery@work, three 8-week online, interactive courses designed to teach legal professionals eDiscovery from beginning to end. No other group or educational facility offers similar training. Registration is now open for the first course, which starts July 19.

Taught by some of the world’s most knowledgeable attorneys, litigation support professionals and consultants, the courses are specifically tailored to facilitate the learning requirements of professionals at three separate experience levels: “eDiscovery 101A: Fundamentals of eDiscovery” is designed for those new to eDiscovery; “eDiscovery, The Next Level” is an advanced course for those who have at least 2-3 years of eDiscovery experience; “eDiscovery for Non-Legal Professionals” instructs technology professionals who transition to the legal eDiscovery field from another industry.

“According to the 2009 Socha-Gelbmann Survey, the legal profession has a severe lack of qualified EDD professionals,” said Chere Estrin, Chair of the OLP Board of Directors.  “Clearly, the need for more training and certification is here. We offer law firms and service providers the training and credentialing missing from the eDiscovery equation until now.”

Topics covered include Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, EDRM, preserving accessible and inaccessible electronically stored information, duty to preserve, litigation holds, where to find metadata, the Sedona Principles, cloud computing, collection strategies, inadvertent disclosure, discovery and Daubert depositions under Rule 30, ethical considerations and early case assessments.

Each course costs $995, but those who register and pay in full before June 15 will receive a $100 discount and a free webcam. The OLP will also arrange group discounts.  For more information, or to register online, go to http://www.theolp.org/Default.aspx?pageId=629321.

As a follow up to the course, the OLP has partnered with Pearson Publishing to create an eDiscovery certification exam for non-attorneys to be administered on September 15.  All those with the requisite qualifications are eligible to sit for certification, whether or not they have completed the OLP’s eDiscovery education. More information about certification will be available soon.
